Help for the Abused
Domestic abuse is not just a sin of the world, it is a sin of the church. 1 out of every 4 women in society suffer some type of domestic abuse and 1 out of every 5 women in the church are abused. That means in a congregation of 100, there are 20 women who have or are presently being abused. In a congregation of 300, 60 women. This is a stistic that can not continue to go ignored.
98% of all those who are abused are women and sadly the church is often willfully turning a blind eye to it. In many cases women reporting abuse to their pastors or their congregations find themselves shunned from their own church family. Too often pastors are untrained regarding the signs of abuse and how to treat it.
Ask yourself these questions. When was the last time you heard a message in your church on this subject? Would know how to help someone who is suffering abuse?
Joyce Hasbrouck, a 27 year survivor of domestic abuse, has written an exceptional book and brochure to aid her in her ministry to help the abused to find help physically, emotionally, and most importantly, spiritually. To learn more about her ministry check out the links below to her websites. Also available below are two speeches she gave in our church which you can listen too online or download for your personal use.
I would highly recommend her to your congregation for future ministry.
